From Montana to Hong Kong, Kenya to Maine, artist Joey DeRuy has adapted to his surroundings and absorbed a wide array of influences. An artist since childhood as well as a fashion model, his illustrative, abstract paintings often deal with the equally rational and irrational world we live in. Born in the late 70's to philanthropists in Africa, Joey has had many influences spanning the gamut of modern art and portraiture. As a young child, his fascination with life in all aspects, as well as his natural talent, led him to expressions under conventional mediums including the standard of pencil and paper, as well as tutelage under famous artists during his early teens.

Joey has since explored other eclectic avenues including tattoo art, illustration and design, and has eventually evolved to his current medium - fine art painting.oey's roots come in painting with encaustic powder mixed with beeswax, which represents one of the oldest painting media, and stems from his youth spent in East Africa. Joey has worked in many media and styles, including painting with flower petals, plants and ashes and his passion and creativity are not limited to the canvas. Joey is, as well, a philanthropist and has donated work to such causes as the Human Rights Campaign's Black Tie Dinner and DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS).
